1989 AIA GOLD MEDAL: Carrying on the Arts and Crafts style of Bay Area architects, UPenn graduate Joseph Esherick, FAIA, focused his designs on regional traditions, site requirements, and the resident's needs. In 1959, he helped to establish UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design.
