Firm Description
Erdy McHenry Architecture is a partnership dedicated to the practice of architecture and related professional services. David S. McHenry, AIA, and Scott A. Erdy, AIA, founded Erdy McHenry Architecture in 1999 with the intent to provide the highest level of service in the pursuit of great architecture. The firm quickly found success, winning both a Philadelphia AIA Gold Medal and the cover of Architecture Magazine garnered from their very first project, The Southern Poverty Law Center.Erdy McHenry has continued to win numerous awards for their innovative work and efforts, and have created many fully realized buildings for a diverse set of clientele. All of the firm’s projects emphasize construction technology, systems integration design, and material cost as the primary methods for creating successful critical design projects. Erdy McHenry believes architecture does not require big budgets or programs of cultural significance. Rather, great architecture can be achieved through an understanding of a site’s fundamental influences, a clear vision to explore beyond what already exists, and a constant communication and built trust with the owners, contractors, consultants, vendors, and all related relationships that are necessary for each project.
Educated in the modernist tradition, Scott and Dave are creating an economical, digitally-driven method of construction, which embraces the purity of material tectonics while revealing the positive aesthetic of space. Erdy McHenry’s philosophy is to ensure engagement with each site and to embody a local context and sense of purpose within each design. Every project presents enormous opportunities for a site to express its sense of place and purpose, to strengthen relationships within its surrounding community, and to delineate a path for a better quality of urban life.
