Architects from around the world submitted their best housing work from the past five years to the 2013 Residential Architect Design Awards. Our four judges spent two demanding days poring over more than 600 entries, in the end awarding 34 winning projects. Of those winners, one was elevated to Project of the Year, 10 were given Grand awards, and 23 received Merit awards. Not all categories entered received awards, and in one case the jurors created the category of Adaptive Reuse to accommodate an outstanding entry. The selected jurors, who practice in various parts of the country and specialize in different types of residential projects, traveled to RA’s office in Washington, D.C., for two days of deliberations and discussions. Our 2013 jury members were E.B. Min, AIA, of Min/Day; Todd Hansen, AIA, of Albertsson Hansen; Robert M. Cain, FAIA; and Brian Messana, AIA, of Messana O'Rorke.
Full coverage of the winners will be featured in RA’s May/June issue with additional images and details on residentialarchitect.com. RADA winners and the winners of the 2013 AIA Housing Awards will be honored at a presentation during the AIA National Convention in Denver this June.
