Project Description
Arrowstreet was commissioned by the Boston non-profit educational group Artists for Humanity to design a new, 22,500 square-foot headquarters and studio space on an urban site in South Boston. The building includes painting, silkscreen, photo, and sculpture studios, as well as gallery space to accommodate 500 people. Interior spaces are open, unobstructed, and flexible to adapt to the changing needs of the center and its students. An important project goal was to maximize renewable energy generation and to minimize energy consumption. A grant for the photovoltaic array was provided by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The project received a US Green Building Council LEED certification at the highest Platinum level, the first building in Boston to be awarded this distinction.
