Project Description
This classic Bethesda, Maryland residence had not been updated in years and the new homeowners turned to the design build contractor for their remodeling project. The goal was to maximize the existing space, improve the flow between the main level areas and create a beautiful, modern kitchen to suit their busy lifestyle. One of the challenges faced by the design team was to improve the connections between the kitchen and the main level spaces in the home. Access from the existing garage was through a doorway passing outside, onto a landing and back into the kitchen. The solution featured a new direct entry into a stylish butler’s pantry connecting the dining room and the kitchen. The kitchen cabinetry and layout were reconfigured eliminating the door and a small window. The awkward built-in pantry and planter were removed between the kitchen and family room resulting in a graceful transition, abundant natural light and lines of sight through the whole space. The centerpiece of the new space is an exquisite new fireplace featuring a marble hearth and surround as well as custom mantle. The kitchen features white cabinetry, mitered-edge marble countertops and white subway tile backsplash. Space-saving details abound, and cabinets and drawers were configured specifically to meet the homeowners’ needs. As part of a larger renovation project, all areas of the main level were touched, from the reworked hallway, to the remodeled powder room to the living room fireplace. A neutral color palette and new or refinished custom flooring provide continuity throughout. The homeowners are thrilled with the results.
