Project Description
The Cobo Center project includes a $260,000,000 adaptive reuse of a 1960s convention center into a modern day facility for Detroit, Michigan. Exterior and interior visual enhancements include a new 40,000 sf ballroom and three-story atrium space that opens the building up to the riverfront providing views to neighboring Canada. The facades will be transformed for energy efficiency, aesthetics and the creation of landmark points of entry. When complete the project will feature:
• New concourse atrium that creates a new visual and circulation
connection from the interior of the building to the river
• New back-of-house circulation system that will improve the operational
and customer experience
• New facade that will present the city a new image,, that includes more
windows, glass canopies and media walls
• Mechanical and electrical upgrades for significant energy savings
Construction will be phased over the next three years with a completion date
of late 2014.
