Project Description
This project began by tearing down an old river cottage in a close knit summer community. The owners had owned the vacation cottage for many years but wanted to build a new home for their future retirement, with plenty of room to host their kids and grandchildren. A new home was designed with a sensitivity to the relative modesty of the other homes nearby. The design kept the street elevation fairly low and grounded like its neighbors. The rear elevation includes a walkout basement and lots of glazing to take advantage of the terrific views. Ornate interior trim, creative decorative tile (note tile "rug" in bathroom floor), custom mill work and an elegant entry stair all contribute to the warmth and charm of this family home.
