Intergraph, a high-tech software company in Huntsville, Alabama, needed a new headquarters facility to reflect its smaller size, increasingly collaborative culture, and cutting-edge technology. Cooper Carry was asked to transform Intergraph’s existing workplace into an integrated work community by designing a state-of-the- art, $58 million facility, which opened fall 2014.

The layout is designed to promote productivity and collaboration between Intergraph’s more than 1,000 local employees. Multiple spots are scattered throughout the facility to encourage impromptu meetings and conversations between co-workers and clients. The state-of-the-art facility also features a barista coffee station, more than 1,000 parking spaces, charging stations for electric vehicles, a lake with bass, carp and catfish, webinar rooms, a binary clock, MegaBytes Café and more.

Cooper Carry provided full architectural services including workplace strategy, programming, change management along with the landscape architecture, master planning, interior design and environmental graphics.

Highlights of the design include:
- Open ceilings in the building, which increased the height, creating a hip “loft” feel.
- Floor plan ensured most employees would be no more than 30 feet away from a window.
- The building has no individual offices, furthering internal communication.
- A variety of spaces on a variety of levels for employees to move around and create scrums, or teams.
- A full-service cafeteria and an outdoor workplace for meetings and events.
- PDLA (power, data, light and acoustic) platform will allow team members to move custom-designed, portable furniture systems around as needed to reconfigure floors.
- Site is configured to improve walkability, and paths around the lake will be maintained.
