Project Description
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
New offices for Kingsland Capital Management, an investment manager, are located on the penthouse levels of a pre-war tower in midtown Manhattan. The spaces originally served as William Paley’s private suite when the building was the headquarters of CBS. The design responds to unusual existing spatial conditions, ample daylight, and dramatic views. The program includes a trading area for thirty-eight people, together with meeting rooms, offices and support spaces. The project involved major upgrades to the base building infrastructure, such as new windows, restrooms and HVAC systems.
From the reception area, large windows frame views of surrounding mid-town towers. New steel and concrete stairs are located, designed and detailed to unite three existing floor levels. The trading area, the heart of the business, occupies an intermediate floor level. The top floor includes the director’s office, a large boardroom, an informal breakout space, and access to the expansive roof terrace. A neutral palette is punctuated by boldly colored walls that distinguish key areas.
