Project Description

Kahler Slater partnered with Mary Baldwin College to establish the new Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville, Virginia. Opened in 2014, the College of Health Sciences welcomed students into new co-educational, graduate degree programs and paves the way for a major programmatic and physical expansion for the 170-year old College.

The College of Health Sciences establishes a new campus for Mary Baldwin College, ensuring both short-term and long-term success for the program and the institution. The new college offers Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) programs, Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MPAS) and RN to BSN programs.

From the three-story, light-filled atrium with waterfall staircase to the active learning classrooms, simulation suite, human anatomy cadver lab, clinical labs, research spaces and numerous formal and informal gathering places, the facility fosters interaction between students and faculty from all four programs to work together. The inter-professional collaboration, sharing of knowledge through research and applied learning experiences gives students a broader understanding of health care and more accurately reflects the environments in which they will ultimately work.

The program includes active learning classrooms, skills labs, a gross anatomy laboratory, dedicated OT, PT and PA lab, nursing and simulation rooms, faculty and administrative offices and student lounge space.
