Project Description
Mercury is a leading provider of payment processing and revenue generation solutions located in Durango and Denver, Colorado. The Durango project changed from developer driven to Mercury-owned facility in 2012. The space requirements for this dynamic company were validated by the design team and informed the design of the three-story building with an adjacent future 25,000sf addition. A future lower level corporate cafeteria with a plaza above will link the two buildings. The building achieved LEED Gold certification.
The design of the building has taken into account the owner’s desire for energy efficient systems including mechanical systems, LED lighting, ample daylighting reducing requirements for electric lighting, occupancy sensors, high performance glazing optimized for the Durango climate, super-insulated building envelope, and building automation software to optimize and coordinate all systems.
The building houses high performance office space, a data center, a fitness facility, and an employee health clinic. The majority of the workspace is composed of open office, with minimum number of private offices. The support space is located in the interior core of the building, with the occupants located on the perimeter to provide daylight and views for nearly all the staff. Informal meeting spaces provide places for collaboration and are scattered throughout the floor plan. With high density workstations for employees, there is a need for one on one meetings and privacy for personal conversations. “Huddle rooms” are distributed throughout the facility to provide those settings. The interior spaces, finishes, and furnishings are designed to reinforce the Mercury brand to employees and visitors alike, as well as showcase the sustainable features.
