Project Description
The Taylor Centre establishes a dramatic new front door for the eastern edge of the rapidly expanding Mount Royal University campus. A large elevated ensemble performance studio, located at the corner of the site at the TransAlta Pavilion, features a window wall that allows performances to be visible to passersby. Multiple instructional spaces, such as ensemble rooms, individual and group practice rooms, and master classrooms provide a flexible learning environment for students, enhanced with several breakout spaces for impromptu practice or socialization. The most prominent feature of the facility is the new 800-seat Bella Concert Hall, designed with 10 theatre boxes, an 89-seat choir loft, and full multimedia capability. The plaza and open space that form the Centre’s forecourt knit the building into the fabric of the campus, while serving as a space for informal events and performances. A multilevel lobby and roof terrace provide dramatic views to the campus, as well as the surrounding region beyond. The facility is designed to LEED Gold certification.
