Project Description

The museum is part of an ongoing effort by the University of Puerto Rico to certify all of its museums under the American society of Museumd standards. The building was originally built in the late 1940s as a food laboratory for research in the field of food preparation for a then non indurtialized island. The renovation converted all the spaces into offices, curator lab, collection storage and two exhibition halls for the permanent and temporary collections. There is a second phase planned which will expand areas for outdoor exhibits. At present the exterior comprises two green walls and to ponds for the outdoor live insect collection. The building is currently in the process for LEED certification.
