Project Description
The project is an endeavor by the Museum of Natural History in Brussels to accomplish several objectives:
To present a more inviting face to the public by expanding the Museum to include a new entrance and orientation space, museum store and other ancillary functions
To incorporate into the museum a dilapidated group of structures which will house workshops, children’s education and play area
To give back to the community by restoring housing units and revitalizing the neighborhood.
The concept uses the natural inclination of the site to create an engaging relationship between the built volumes and adjacent outside spaces to create a positive sense of place. The dark alley is opened up to create a green corridor that can be used for outdoor activities.
