Project Description
At the intersection of two cultures, Atlanta-based architecture firm tvsdesign is creating what will become one of China’s largest convention centers – the new Ningxia International Conference Center, a 700,000-square-foot convention center that will be constructed in Yinchuan.
The project’s design is rooted in the culture of the city, which contains a large ethnic Muslim population and is the site of the annual China-Arab National Economic Trade Forum. This iconic structure is inspired by ancient Chinese metaphors and strong Islamic artistic patterns. Its primary feature is the use of the circle and square, which in both cultures represents the harmony between the material and spiritual worlds. The central courtyard plaza is oriented due west to orient the center toward Mecca while also offering scenic views of Yuehai Lake and the Helan Mountains.
