Project Description
Priorities
- Restore the circa 1907 Queen Anne that had been “modernized” by
covering its wood siding with aluminum, removing the porch, and closing
off the front entry with a makeshift vestibule
- Replace the divided-lite upper sashes of double-hung windows with single panes
Solutions
Using old photos and historical research, the architect worked with the clients to restore the home to its original state, which included an asymmetrical façade, an overhanging red slate roof, a prominent wraparound porch, and a large reception area with a central stair and Palladian window. The 21st-century touch: geothermal heating and cooling and new insulation.Judges’ Comments
