Project Description
The world golf village community had been all but deserted. For years, the Reverb Church team saw this PGA superstore building as an opportunity for an exciting redemption story in a forgotten community. It would be the perfect size for their growing congregation and give them plenty of room for Sunday gatherings, conferences, or regional pastor initiatives. Purchasing this facility meant they could finally live into their mission and end nearly a decade of mobile campus operations, offering relief to their volunteer teams. Additionally, a building renovation could cost half of what it would be for new construction, especially with parking and site infrastructure already in place.
As a PGA store designed for retail, the interior came full of racks, shelves, various golf-themed decor, and a large practice green in the center of the store’s primary atrium. Fortunately for Reverb, this configuration gave Equip designers enough to work with to design a jaw-dropping worship auditorium. The golf green area was replaced with ground-level soft seating while the second-story retail space was converted into balcony seating, giving Reverb a dynamic, one-of-a-kind worship venue. At the heart of the building, the two-story atrium features a captivating light fixture that not only demands attention, but capitalizes on the existing structure’s unique rotunda. Additionally, the lobby space also includes new windows which add an array of natural light that complements the color and finish palette used throughout (black, white, and orange). In combination with the lighting, the team achieved a warm, on-brand lobby experience through the use of leather-toned furniture and modern decor. Following a similar rule, environmental graphics encourage the church’s clean brand guidelines while still engaging the guests through unique vinyl application and careful execution of LVT patterns along the floor. Much of the signage in the lobby is executed using LED screens—giving non-church events the ability to rebrand the space digitally.
Since Reverb’s grand opening, the church has noted many of its neighbors helping to bring new life and energy to the once-forgotten community. With outdoor seating and new scenic walking trails around the lake, more and more businesses are buying up these facilities to play their own role in the bigger story. Reverb has learned that with over 1,000 people showing up to the village circle every Sunday since its launch, many of these visitors are tourists staying at nearby village resorts. The church plans to partner with these neighboring businesses to better engage their community by offering vibrant space to meet and fellowship. There is a lot to look forward to in St. Augustine’s World Golf Village with Reverb Church leading the way.
