Project Description
The Shaw’s Cove Sewage Lift Station Rehabilitation and Systems Upgrade developed by the City of Laguna Beach, Water Quality Department is part of a Clean Beaches Initiative Grant Project that has significantly reduced the risk of spills for Shaw’s Cove and Fisherman’s Cove beaches adjacent to the “Heisler Park” Area of Special Biological Significance (ASBS) in Orange County.
The building was designed with a marine theme that included the use of copper roofing, louvers and doors that will reach a natural patina green in time. The 200 square foot building was designed to appear like a contemporary public park building to blend into the setting for this highly public used beach access. The project design was required to not obstruct site lines of view to the beach from Cliff Drive and fit aesthetically with the surrounding multimillion dollar residences. The design includes cast-in-place concrete walls with integral color, a curved copper standing seam metal roof and a sunrise embossed designed copper clad entry door. The building houses a 100 KW emergency generator; therefore, special acoustical louver sections and acoustical decking were designed into the project to mitigate any noise from the building during its operation.
