Project Description
As part of the continuing modernization at William P. Hobby International Airport, Southwest Airlines decided to develop a new, expanded aircraft maintenance operation and service center at one of their largest hubs. Ghafari provided comprehensive architecture and engineering design services for this new facility, which strengthens the airline’s growing operations and supports their future fleet.
Our team designed an open-bay hangar and support center with flexible space capable of servicing multiple aircraft, including all advanced variants of Airbus and Boeing.
The hangar bays and support shops were designed with specific focus on Southwest’s base and heavier aircraft maintenance for its existing and future fleets. The hangar envelope and orientation have been carefully confirmed to meet functional needs while effectively integrating with the site and airfield conditions.
The philosophy toward this aircraft MRO facility can simply be described as a center of excellence for fleet service and reliability. The goal was to provide the most value-driven work space to promote quality, productivity and safety in aircraft maintenance.
