Project Description
This bathroom was conceived of as a sanctuary. The space is feminine, richly textured, and warm. Alloy created a trapezoidal wet zone, containing the rain shower and soaking tub, with a sculptural surround so that the client can relax in a hot bath with a glass of wine. The toilet area is visually separated from the tub by a niche wall that contains candles and various bathing-oriented sundries. The niche wall was built with warm-toned cedar, and accented with Carrera marble, to tie back into the other colors of the room. The vanity area is separated from the shower by a glass wall, and it continues the luxurious and warm material palette. Penny tiles make an interesting contrast to the calm, smooth finish of the tub and subway tiles.
The client had been living for over a year with an incomplete master bathroom. This stalled renovation became a rough landscape for intervention and adaptation. As the client had previously purchased many of the fixtures for the project, and much of the plumbing had already been roughed in, she did not wish to start from scratch; so our design team had to work creatively within the constraints of another designer’s stalled plan to create a wonderful and inviting space.
