Project Description
"The Screened Porch at Trout Lily Vineyard is an elevated one-room addition to an existing cabin located in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountain Appellation. The project is materially rough and rustic, but spatially expansive creating a perch with a 270-degree view of the surrounding landscape and dramatically increasing the floor area of the 500 sf cabin. The space will primarily be used as a dining room, but is also intended for wine tasting, cooking, sleeping, and working outdoors without bees and bugs. The folded ceiling is formed from a mix of sloped and flat joists align across the roof’s topography, and bent to accommodate localized needs. To the north, the ceiling is peaked up to 10’ to allow a view up a steep slope and into the adjacent oak trees. On the east, it drops to form a cozy 6’ tall sense of enclosure. The south side rises to collect sunshine and moonlight. On the west, where the new roof structure meets the old cabin, the slope resolves existing geometries and drainage requirements."
