Project Description

The objective of this project was to design a concept and palette of materials for an enclosure of the first floor of B Wing, York Hall that will complement the existing building and its surroundings. The design takes into account of York University’s desire to promote green initiatives in all new building projects on campus and conform to the standards of materials and equipment of the University.

The renovation of the ground floor of York Hall houses classrooms and seminar rooms, student lounge space, two new barrier free washrooms to suit scooter clearances and mechanical/electrical rooms and some office space.

The building alterations changed the existing façade to serve as a significant backdrop for convocation ceremonies. The feeling of transparency remains with views through the first floor. The existing east-west pedestrian links through the breezeway was maintained, though limited to a vestibule at the north end. Existing pathways were modified to suit the new vestibule entrances.
