A 10,150 square-foot double-sided green wall comprising of 50,000 individual plants has been completed in Surrey, British Columbia.
Vancouver-based design firm Green Over Grey designed the award-winning “Mountains & Trees, Waves & Pebbles” living wall project, which is a part of the LEED Gold-seeking Guildford Town Development.
The green wall is built on an overpass in a high traffic area, and the design was inspired by the British Columbia landscape. Plants on the east face (in the direction of the coast) are formed in the pattern of waves and pebbles, while the the west face (facing inland) has plants placed in patterns representative of mountains and forests. The design stands out from miles away, but the juxtaposition of the lush wall with transportation makes a stronger design statement than the intricate pattern in the living wall itself.
