"By focusing on occupant comfort rather than rigid temperature setpoints, AI can decide, for instance, that 74°F with appropriate humidity might feel as comfortable as 72°F, saving energy without sacrificing satisfaction,” DeLoach says.

DeLoach notes that many are flush-mounted indoors with decorative facades outdoors, blending seamlessly into architectural designs. “It’s not just about functionality—it needs to fit into the environment and enhance the building’s aesthetics,” he says.

Modern HVAC systems provide architects with tools to optimize building performance even after construction. AI-enabled units gather real-time data to adapt dynamically to environmental conditions, using predictive algorithms to maintain comfort efficiently. For example, a unit in a west-facing apartment might increase cooling during peak afternoon sun or bring the temperature down in a boardroom ahead of a regularly scheduled meeting.
Moreover, cloud connectivity allows facility managers—and even residents—to control systems remotely. “With the right app and smart system integration, tenants can have control of their individual spaces while maintaining centralized efficiency,” DeLoach says.
