The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) has released two separate updates addressing California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards, which take effect on January 1, 2020, and are applicable for new construction, additions, and alterations to existing buildings. The efficiency standards deliver specific improvements for photovoltaic systems, walls, gas furnaces, and lighting.

The first guide, What's New in 2019 Title 24, Part 6 for Residential Lighting, outlines the three areas impacted by the update: color quality, marking updates, and the addition of new light source categories including step and path lights, and light sources for drawers, cabinets, and linen closets. The guide also addresses interior switching devices and controls, multifamily residential buildings, and JA8 compliant lamps and luminaires. The residential guide can be downloaded, free, from the CLTC website.

The second guide, What's New in 2019 Title 24, Part 6 for Nonresidential Lighting, addresses ventilation, HVAC, demand response and lighting. Requirements for healthcare facilities are also discussed. Major changes affect the following areas: lighting power allowances, power adjustment factors, and additions, alterations and repairs. The non-residential guide can be downloaded, free, from the CLTC website.
