Light Artist James Turrell Illuminates Franklin Park Conservatory With LEDs

The Franklin Park Conservatory’s historic glass John F. Wolfe Palm House in Columbus, Ohio, is now illuminated by more than 7,000 low-voltage light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This is the first conservatory in the world to be illuminated by renowned light artist James Turrell. The ability to mix colors and ease of programming are just two reasons behind Turrell’s decision to use LED technology for this installation, titled “Light Raiment.” The permanent light installation was made possible through a $1 million gift from Limited Brands Foundation, based in Columbus.
