Last month, the American Lighting Association (ALA), the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, and Underwriters Laboratories  announced the call for entries for the 13th annual Lighting for Tomorrow competition, which this year will emphasize entries featuring A-shaped lamps that retail for less than $10, contractor-focused products under $50, and luminaires that meet the needs of a growing senior population.

Through its separate solid-state lighting and lighting controls competitions, the 2015 iteration of Lighting for Tomorrow is looking to spotlight the development of OLED technology for solid-state fixtures as well as the development of standalone, system, and whole-home controls that are compatible with LED technology. Entries in the solid-state competition will be judged on lighting performance, marketability, ease of installation, innovation, and energy efficiency, according to the project website. Judges for the lighting controls competition will look for functionality, ease of installation and use, innovation, and compatibility with other systems and existing products.

The deadline for this year’s competition is April 24, and winners will be announced at the ALA Annual Conference in October 2015 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Click here to learn more about the entry process for the Lighting for Tomorrow program.
