Lighting Science, “an LED lighting technology company focused on health, wellness and horticulture solutions” has announced the appointment of Khim Lee as the company’s new president. Khim’s more than 15 years’ experience in LED lighting, management consulting, and private equity operations, will guide the company in its next chapter of growth.
Earlier this year, Lighting Science separated its private-label lamp business unit under the company name of Global Value Lighting (GVL), a joint venture between Lighting Science and Chinese LED manufacturer MLS. According to the press release, “Khim will oversee all strategic and business aspects of the company, managing the creation of innovative biological, horticultural and urban lighting solutions for commercial and consumer markets, including brands such as GoodNight®, GoodDay®, and Sleepy Baby® LED bulbs and the groundbreaking horticulture light, the GroBar™.”
“I am very excited to bring my experience to Lighting Science and the fast-growing sectors we are targeting,” said Khim in a prepared statement. “We are looking forward to bringing the benefits of lighting technology to our customers. Whether in living spaces such as offices and bedrooms, classrooms, or plant growth facilities, our products are improving the quality of lives and enhancing crop yields.”
Khim holds a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics from the University of California Berkeley and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He began his career at McKinsey & Co. in San Francisco and then worked at Philips Lumileds where he was the Product Line Director launching the company’s Mid-Power lighting LED product family. Prior to joining Lighting Science, Khim was at Vector Capital, a technology-focused private equity fund.
The press release noted that “Khim will work alongside Abraham Morris, Executive Chairman of Lighting Science, Ed Bednarcik, CEO of GVL, David Friedman, the recently appointed President of VividGro®, the horticultural arm of Lighting Science, and Fred Maxik, founder and Chief Technology Officer of Lighting Science. “We are very pleased to welcome Khim into the Lighting Science family,” said Fred Maxik, founder and CTO of Lighting Science. “We are confident that under his leadership Lighting Science will continue to break new ground and open up new avenues of innovation in LED lighting and lighting solutions.”
