• The ‘Design Plus powered by Light+Building’ competition, organized by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the German Design Council (Rat für Formgebung), showcases lighting products by both mainstream manufacturers as well as students. Products are evaluated on the following criteria:

    Design: design quality, material selection, operability (Universal Design)

  • Ecology: energy efficiency, sustainability (use of resources), durability
  • Technology: innovation, function, technical quality and ease of integration
For the 2014 program, 238 entries were received from 145 exhibitors. An international jury of design experts selected 36 products for the Design Plus Awards, three of which have also been recognized with a ‘Best Of’ distinction. These luminaires are:
• The Berker W.1 range by Germany’s Berker company
• the Tweeter luminaire by Belgium manufacturer Delta Light

• the Wireflow pendent by VIBIA from Spain

In the student category, 70 young designers participated, representing 15 countries. From the pool of 89 entries, the jury chose 10 luminaires, two of which were selected to receive the ‘Best Of’ designation. They are: 

• the Extended Light wall luminaire by Markus Bauer and 

• the Screen lamp by Anselm Kempf

Two others were awarded a Special Mention. They are:

• the Optimist clamping luminaire by Cosima Geyer and

All the award-winning products are featured in a special catalog and an exhibition at the ‘Design Plus powered by Light+Building’ area during Light+Building 2014 located in Hall 1.1, Stand E51. This is the same location for the Awards Ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m.
