What If We Turned Every Window into a Power Source?

This new video takes a look at research being done at Michigan State University that could turn every window into a solar power collector.

What if every window could generate solar power? Just imagine it.

Not: “Every tower in New York City has solar panels on the roof and can generate a little offsetting energy usage. But: “Every tower in New York City is completely lined with solar panels.” The potential could be amazing. Instead of being energy hogs, our cities could be the very powerplants that we utilize to create all of the energy we use.

That potential, maybe, is what we see in this video from Mic, where they visit a research lab at Michigan State University that is experimenting with glass that replaces the bulky, ugly, sunlight-shading PV panels with … normal glass … but glass that collects the power of the sun.

Also, the researchers say that they’re working on a laminate that could do the same for regular non-PV windows.

Just think of the possibilities …
