Irony, Luxury
The joke might be lost on you if you’re not Austrian, but it’s a good one. Designer Thomas Feichtner has designed the One Crystal Chandelier in his signature minimalist way for glass legend Lobmeyr. One Crystal features a single handcut crystal suspended in the crook of a bent metal tube and refracting the light of a single power LED, stripping the traditionally rococo Lobmeyr luminaire to its essence. Feichtner is celebrating a new luxury, one less about flaunting wealth and more about enjoying something fine. Of course, if you’re old-school, One Crystal can be hung in clusters to rich and powerful effect. lobmeyr.at, thomasfeichtner.com

Layers & Light
When Daniel Rybakken and Andreas Engesvik introduced Colour, a light made up of independent and differently shaped colored glass panes layered against each other at the foot of a wall, it seemed to be the last product on show that would be picked up for mass manufacture. This April, however, Ligne Roset launched the “exploded” light, as Rybakken refers to it, in its consistently strong 2011 collection. ligneroset.com, danielrybakken.com

And Then There was Green Light
For Flos, Antonio Citterio and Toan Nguyen teamed up to create the angle-poise Kelvin LED task lamp and have now added a sustainable component. The Kelvin LED Green Mode senses the amount of energy required and provides no less and no more than that amount. At a touch, a sensor is activated that determines the ambient light level and adjusts the intensity of the 30 LEDs, which are diffused behind a chemically photo-etched glass pane, accordingly. www.flos.com, antoniocitterioandpartners.it
