Morphosis Architects has won a competition held to design a new luxury hotel, 7132 Ltd, in Vals, Switzerland. Eight leading firms had contended for the opportunity. Finalists of the international competition, which launched last June, included New York-based Steven Holl Architects as well as 6a Architects of London.

The mountainside design features 100 luxury suites and a spa. Additional details will be unveiled at a celebratory event in New York City next month.

“We are thrilled about the jury’s decision and look forward to working with a visionary client to create a unique design that resonates with this incredible destination in the Alps,” commented AIA Gold Medal and Pritzker-winning founder of the firm, Thom Mayne, in a press release.

The property’s adjacent spring-water spa was designed by fellow Pritzker Prize Laureate Peter Zumthor, Hon. FAIA.
