For many awards programs, the difference between a winning project and an also-ran is in the photography. Judges look at hundreds of submissions with eyes honed in on the slightest detail, be it an errant gutter or a less-than-resolved section. And, with perhaps the lone exception of the Pritzker jury, which travels to nominated architects’ works, most juries have little in the way of experiencing the projects before them outside of the images carefully curated into awards submissions.
Out of the 19 projects bestowed with Annual Design Review awards this year, three were photographed by Albert Vecerka of Esto Photography, who appears to have a knack for capturing the jury’s attention and accolades. Judge for yourself with the images below.
