Project Description

The design of Estetica Salon grew from the concept of feeling pampered in the coziness of home while having your hair styled by a professional. The client, owner Tony McCourt, was very specific in his requirements for fresh air, natural light and maximum efficiency while retaining a cozy, classy and contemporary aesthetic. The existing 1000sf house was enlarged by 2600sf and completely remodeled on the interior. The program included a new waiting room, color selection/shampoo room, VIP area, private make-up and nail service rooms, private patios, and a large salon service area. The entire client experience was considered in the design. From barista made espresso drinks upon arrival, to a papyrus lined yoga lawn with massage beds to calm and ease nerves, to custom walnut-trimmed styling salon stations, designed and built by the furniture department of TWInc. Additionally, a “teaching patio” was added for weekend hairdresser training.

Architecturally, as one of many green energy measures, passive cooling was implemented by allowing outside air to pass over a custom rock-wall fountain, cooling it naturally as flows over the water into the interior. All of the new openings were fitted with custom steel frame pivoting and sliding doors by Breakform Design, giving the space a contemporary feel and all new lighting fixtures are LED to further reduce energy costs.

The overall aesthetic is one of contemporary amenities, modern efficiency and organic, warm textures and materials.

Overall design highlights include: custom tiling throughout the bathrooms and wet areas, ebony wood flooring, a custom textured plaster wall at reception, an espresso bar with a high end Italian espresso machine, an interior rock faced water-wall to cool the circulating fresh air, custom pivoting and sliding doors, new redwood plank patios, a yoga lawn. The walnut furniture and amenities, and custom salon stations, all designed and fabricated by TWInc.
