Winners Announced at World Architecture Festival

Media-ICT Barcelona, a mixed-use office building designed by Spanish architectural firm Cloud 9, has been named Best Building at the 2011 World Architectural Festival, held from Nov. 2 – 4 in the Catalonian capital. The building bested over 700 entries from 59 countries. Judges for the festival included Monica Ponce de Leon, AIA, dean of the University of Michigan’s Alfred A. Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning; Will Alsop, the London-based artist and architect; and Julie Eizenberg, AIA, a founding principal of Santa Monica, Calif.–based Koning Eizenberg Architecture. The festival, billed as the world’s largest live architectural awards program, recognized structures in more than two dozen categories, among them the World House of the Year, the World Sport Building of the Year, and several Future Projects of the Year.
