Project Description
This addition and renovation project expanded facilities for Alamo Heights High School’s band, chorale, orchestra, and percussion programs, while meshing with the existing campus vernacular. The building also provides a direct link between practice facilities and the High School’s new state-of-the-art auditorium, also designed by OCO Architects, Inc. The design incorporated unique sustainability solutions such as an ice storage cooling system with ice made only during off-peak hours. The building also ties into the High School’s rooftop photo-voltaic solar array. Natural lighting challenges presented by the building orientation and acoustic needs were solved by including clerestory windows that allow for North/South day-lighting without compromising acoustic integrity.
