Project Description

In 2012, this community embarked upon a major repositioning of their existing five-story, early 20th Century building located in the Mount Washington area of Baltimore, Maryland. The first phase of this effort consisted of the complete demolition and renovation of the previously vacant 30,000 sf second floor. This complete remodel created a warm and inviting nineteen-room assisted living community; a nine-apartment addition to the independent living community; and associated dining and gathering spaces. This phase was completed in fall 2012. Phase two, which is currently under construction, will add an 800sf light-filled dining venue for the exclusive use of memory care residents and their families, as well as three additional memory care apartments. The dining room will open onto a secluded deck to be located in a secure yet serene landscaped garden. The goal for the design of both the renovation and the expansion was to carefully incorporate the new spaces into the luxurious grand hotel decor of the existing building. High ceilings, tall windows, and high end yet comfortable finishes, were employed to maximize natural daylighting, and create intimate personal spaces interspersed with opulent common spaces reminiscent of grand homes and hotels of the early twentieth century.
