The winners of the 2017 AIA New York State Design Awards have been announced, with honors going to 28 projects in 10 different categories. The deadline for submissions was May 26.

Some well-known firms like Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) came home with top honors, and Peter Marino Architect received awards in multiple categories. The 10 categories were Residential, Multi Family; Institutional; Commercial/Industrial, Large; Commercial/Industrial, Small; Urban Planning/Design; Adaptive Reuse/Historic Preservation; Interiors, Unbuilt, General; and International.

“New York architects are universally praised for their design excellence and these projects are no different,” said AIA New York State (AIANYS) executive director Georgi Ann Bailey, in a press release from AIANYS. “Our residents and visitors are the real winners; they are the people who live, work, play and stay in these works of art.”

Presentation of the awards will take place on Nov. 10 in Albany, N.Y.
