GE’s GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heater uses heat pump technology and traditional electric elements to heat water. It pulls heat from surrounding air, transfers it to the tank, and expels cool air into the room. The Energy Star–certified unit uses 1,856 kilowatt hours per year and, in GE’s estimation, reduces energy expenses by up to 62 percent, resulting in annual savings of up to $320.
