The 2015 AIA Detroit Honor Awards went to 11 projects designed by eight Detroit-based firms. The awards, which showcase the forerunners in architectural design that are impacting Detroit's built environment, were given in categories of Buildings, Interiors, Small projects, Unbuilt, and Urban Design.
Four awards were also presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to architecture in the city and to the Detroit chapter of the AIA. Raymond Cekauskas, AIA, principal at Landry | Cekauskas Architecture received the AIA Detroit Gold Award; the Charles Blessing Award went to Joongsub Kim, PhD, AIA, professor in the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University; Najahyia Chinchilla, Associate AIA, the Co-Studio Director of Workplace at Gensler, was given the Associate Member Award; and the Professional Affiliate Award was presented to Carolyn Dwyer, Hon. Aff. AIA, account manager at Patcraft.
The jury was composed of Thomas Hoepf, FAIA, vice president and principal design architect at exp in Chicago; Patricia Saldana Natke, FAIA, president and design principal at Chicago-based firm Urbanworks; and Daniel H. Wheeler, FAIA, principal at Wheeler Kearns Architects in Chicago.
