The National Organization of Minority Architects announced the 2020 winners of its Phil Freelon Professional Design Awards in a ceremony during the organization's virtual conference, which concluded on Sunday, Oct. 18. The decades-old award, which was renamed in 2019 in honor of the late architect and NOMA advocate Phil Freelon, recognizes projects that exhibit "outstanding architectural design work," according to the award website. This year, NOMA recognized five different honor award winners across five different categories: vision, built work, historic preservation, unbuilt work, and small projects.
The jury for this year's awards comprised Tonja Adair, AIA, of Splice Studios, Inc.; Nicole Hollant-Denis, AIA, of Aaris Design Studios; and Edward Douglas Dunson, II, AIA, architect and associate professor of architecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
