Mike Hanley is the retired CEO of Hanley Wood LLC, a company he founded with Mike Wood in 1976 which, under his leadership, grew into the nation’s leading business-to-business media company focused on residential and commercial construction through it magazines, Web sites, and trade shows. Hanley and Wood were included in the 1999 Folio 40 list of the most influential people in the magazine industry, and in 2006 Media Business named both men as two of the top 25 business magazine entrepreneurs of all time. Hanley has been a visiting professor at the George Washington University Publishing Specialist Program, served on the BPA (Business Publications Audit of Circulation, Inc.) board of directors, and the American Business Press board. He has also served on the board of directors of BPEF (Business Press Educational Foundation) and has been a featured speaker at many industry conferences and meetings. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and consults with a variety of organizations.
Following his retirement from Hanley Wood in 1999, Hanley created The Hanley Foundation in Washington, DC., to support people and programs working to improve education, health care, the environment, and housing, as well as a variety of humanitarian issues.
In an effort to address critical environmental challenges, and to acknowledge and encourage the housing industry’s response, The Hanley Foundation created and funds The Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing, produced in collaboration with Hanley Wood and EcoHome magazine. Hanley directs the Hanley Award program and sits on the Judges Panel participating in the winner’s final selection.

Frank Anton, CEO

Frank Anton is president and CEO of Hanley Wood, LLC, the nation's premier media company serving the housing and construction industries. As president, Anton oversees the company's strategic growth and development both enterprise wide, and within each of the company's four operating divisions: Business Media, Exhibitions, Marketing and Market Intelligence. Under Anton's leadership, Hanley Wood has developed and launched major cross-divisional efforts that call on the expertise of all company divisions, such as the Big Builder conference, which brings together top executives from the country's largest homebuilding firms and building-product manufacturers to discuss industry challenges and debate solutions. Anton also forges and cultivates the company's strategic relationships, such as those with leading policy think tanks The Brookings Institution and the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.
Anton's tenure at Hanley Wood spans three decades. Prior to being named company president, Anton served for 25 years as editor and publisher of BUILDER magazine, the company's flagship title and the respected industry leader. His significant experience and stature within the industry make Anton a sought-after commentator on housing-related issues. An engaging presenter, he also speaks often at media- and housing-industry events and conferences.
Anton is a member of the board of American Business Media and of the executive committee at the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Edward Mazria- (2009 Hanley Award Recipient), Founder and Director Architecture 2030

The 2009 recipient of The Hanley Award, Edward Mazria is an internationally recognized architect, author, researcher, and educator with a long and distinguished career. His award-winning architecture and planning projects span a thirty-five year period, each employing a cutting-edge environmental approach to design. He is the author of numerous published works, including the ‘bible’ of solar design, The Passive Solar Energy Book, which is currently in use worldwide.
Most recently, Mr. Mazria has reshaped the national and international dialogue on energy and climate change to incorporate building design and the ‘Building Sector’. He is the founder of Architecture 2030, an innovative and flexible research organization focused on this issue. He developed and issued The 2030 Challenge, a measured and achievable strategy to dramatically reduce global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030. He speaks nationally and internationally on the subject of architecture, design, energy, and climate change and has taught architecture at several universities including the University of New Mexico, University of Oregon, University of Colorado-Denver, and UCLA.
His numerous awards include AIA Design Awards, AIA Design Innovation Award, American Planning Association Award, Department of Energy Awards, “Pioneer Award” from the American Solar Energy Society, first recipient of the Equinox Award, and most recently a National Conservation Achievement Award from the National Wildlife Federation and the Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing. He is a fellow of the Design Futures Council.
Joyce Mason, VP Marketing Pardee Homes

Joyce Mason is vice president of marketing for Pardee Homes, one of the most prominent multi-regional builders in the industry. Under her leadership Pardee Homes became a pioneer in green building among production builders more than a decade ago. Ms. Mason developed Pardee’s LivingSmart brand to promote energy and water savings, indoor air quality and use of earth-friendly building materials, and today, this is a standard for all new homes built by Pardee Homes.
A member of the Building Industry Institute Advisory Board for California Green Builder, Ms. Mason earned The State of California Earth Award for Pardee’s LivingSmart neighborhoods and habitat preservation in San Diego. Pardee Homes has received numerous sustainability awards, including multiple Sustainable Community of the Year awards, 2010 NAHB Green Advocate of the Year, NAHB Builder of the Year, and recognition from the U.S. DOE and EPA, as well as from state, local and regional agencies.
Joyce also devotes time to HomeAid, the national non-profit organization created by homebuilders to provide quality shelter to the temporarily homeless. On HomeAid’s behalf, Joyce coordinated the display of a Pardee-built playhouse at the National Building Museum to teach children about green building.

Nate Kredich, VP Residential Market Development U.S.Green Building Council

Nate Kredich joined the U.S. Green Building Council in March 2008 as Vice President of Residential Market Development. Nate is responsible for driving the USGBC’s programs around new (LEED for Homes) and existing (REGREEN remodeling guidelines, GreenHomeGuide.com) homes, as well as its initiatives for the affordable housing sector. Prior to USGBC, Nate spent five years working in the production homebuilding environment as the chief operating officer and general manager of Creative Touch Interiors, a national provider of design and installation services that he helped to sell to The Home Depot in 2004.
Following the sale, Nate oversaw the growth of the company’s California and Nevada operations, and he held various leadership positions within his own local homebuilding association. Nate’s prior experience also includes a position as CEO of a software company focused on the interior design market, where he helped build a searchable interior products database which helped design professionals gather information on sustainable products. Nate is active in numerous residential sustainable projects and committees, including the Michael J. Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Building. Nate received his BBA from Emory University, and his MBA from The Darden School at the University of Virginia.
