This week, we're sharing projects from Greenport, N.Y., to Tulum, Mexico, and from Effingham, Ill., to Houston, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we give more detailed coverage, we like to highlight some of the work that architecture firms share with us every day through the Project Gallery—the user-generated portion of our site. So far, we have more than 15,000 projects, most of which were directly uploaded by firms to share with us and our readers.

In this weekly roundup, we showcase some of the coolest new projects to be added to the gallery—thanks to architects like you.

Greenport Passive House
Greenport, N.Y.
The Turett Collaborative Architecture and Interior Design

"The Greenport house was intended to be a laboratory to prove what TTC could achieve for its clients in the integration of sustainability, aesthetics, and luxury. It’s extremely rewarding to see that projects of this type are achievable and to see that the result more than justifies the intensive –and ultimately joyful– effort."

Amira District
Tulum, Mexico
DNA Barcelona Architects

"“Amira District” bases its design on the communion between the natural environment and a contrasting geometry with it. The facade emulates the movement of the waves creating dynamism and the material of the facade is indigenous bamboo. The architecture merges with the Nature entering inside the building and going up to the roof top where the social life of each community is flourishes with its unique experiences such as spa, gym, and 'bridge pools'."

John Adams Middle School Performing Arts Center
Santa Monica, Calif.
HGA

"The HGA-designed John Adams Middle School Performing Arts Center will be a dynamic arts environment for both the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District and Santa Monica College. Designed to carefully integrate the distinct needs of both its middle school and college users, it creates an inspiring setting for all students to explore and develop their artistic voices. Extending along the public face of the John Adams Middle School (JAMS) campus on Pearl Street in Santa Monica, California, the new Center will establish a strong visual identity for the school while engaging Santa Monica College, located directly across the street. It will provide new spaces for diverse student populations within a setting that invites the surrounding community to feel equally at home."

Interlock House
Effingham, Ill.
CCS Architecture

"The home was designed as two “buildings” that contrast each other functionally, geometrically, and materially that only touch at one small connecting point. The first building is angular in plan with blue stained wood, plaster, and glass; which contains three main spaces: a live-eat-cook space, three bedrooms with bathrooms, and the basement recreation space. The roof ascends slightly in height as it goes from the master bedroom at one end to the living room at the other – both of which aim axially out to the forest. The far end of the living room leads to a cantilevered deck that projects over a steep ravine as a counterpoint to the rest of the home, which is essentially a plateau. The angle forms the semi-courtyard-shaped yard that is south facing and focused around the pool. The entry is located at its fold point, which establishes a portal to the front yard. The other “building” is a three-story Corten steel “barn”, which is the garage with two floors above that includes a work studio and guest suite. "

Bernard André

3250 Hollis
Oakland, Calif.
LDP Architecture

"Two four-story buildings are bisected by a private mews with work/live units, creating a tree-lined open space internal to the development. The entry of the midblock mews is marked by a one-story commercial structure with soaring ceilings, providing 2,100 SF for neighborhood retail. The retail was designed to spill out into the entrance to the mews, activating the public-private interaction of this space. The two buildings were arranged to step down in scale responding to neighboring structures between Hollis and Haven Streets. Among the 214,000 SF of built area, nine 3-story work/live units activate the mews and 21 work/live units surround the perimeter with direct street access to create a lively street edge."

988 Howard
Burlingame, Calif.
LDP Architecture

"988 Howard is the first new ground up commercial structure located on the East side of the Caltrain commuter track in Burlingame, California. The building is designed to enhance, encourage, and promote the extension of the downtown district, which is currently limited by the location of the rail line. The team worked closely with the community to create a dynamic building that meets the challenges of the site, which straddles a well-established residential community and acts as direct buffer along the Caltrain rail, all while providing and maintaining respect to the built fabric of the downtown corridor."
