Just because prefabricated homes are eco-friendly and more affordable doesn’t mean they have to be cheap quality. On the contrary, Milan, Italy-based firm JM Architecture has proved with their project, Jesolo Lido Pool Villa, that prefabs are the new luxury.
The project, sited in the Italian beach town of Jesolo Lido, is a custom designed prefab wood structure, which only took six months to construct off-site.
Energy-saving features can be found throughout the building. It is designed with a flexible and anti-seismic wood structure that avoids thermal bridges. Both the interior and exterior are installed with perimeter insulation, argon-gas insulated glass facades, and photovoltaic panels, to ensure ample lighting for the entire house. The 13-foot roof overhang to the west offers shading during hot summer days, and also covers outdoor seating and dining areas.

JM designers has achieved the goal of creating an air of openness in the home. Transparent sides in the indoor living zone open to two patios of different sizes. The larger patio, to the west, features a long swimming pool and planted inserts, while the smaller patio stands to the east. The outdoor areas are low-maintenance, as most surfaces are paved, and low-maintenance plants like olive trees were selected for the landscape due to their minimal care needs as well.
