The AIA has announced that it has renewed a 1994 partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The nearly 20-year-old partnership between the two architecture organizations calls for both organizations to expand cultural diversity, safety, and best practices in the design, construction, and delivery of the country's civic and public spaces and in Corps design.
"Like the Corps, architects have embraced the challenges and opportunities of design that advances sustainability," said AIA president Jeffery Potter, FAIA, in a release. "In pursuing a course of action that makes the best use of precious human and natural resources, we have much to learn from one another to advance the vision of our nation’s Founders."
The U.S. Department of Defense considers sustainable design a "force multiplier," as an ARCHITECT survey of new Defense designs explains.
"We look forward to continuing that learning process in the years ahead and to making sure architects are first and foremost in the thinking of USACE whenever design challenges present themselves,” Potter said.
