Chee Pearlman, principal of Chee Company in New York, focuses on the design consideration that goes into a ubiquitous plastic utensil in her exhibit “Plastic Spoon,” at the Mmuseumm, in New York. Located in the back of an alley in Manhanttan’s TriBeCa neighborhood, inside of a retired, ground-level elevator shaft, Pearlman’s collection is one of many exhibits in the museum's Season 3 about mundane objects cast as oddities, such as Saudi Arabian pool toys and a shoe thrown at George W. Bush. Pearlman, a 2011 Loeb Fellow and founder of the Chrysler Design Awards, has collected plastic spoons over the years, fascinated by whether or not the “humble” piece of cutlery serves its ultimate purpose: to comfortably deliver food into our mouths. The exhibit started on May 22 and runs to Feb. 15.
