Gensler was named the 2014 American Institute of Architects New York State Firm of the Year on Friday night at the AIA state component's Design Conference gala in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The award was established 10 years ago "to recognize notabble achievements in design, community service, education, and service to the profession and the AIA by an architectural firm within the State," said AIA New York executive director Rick Bell in a press release. (Full disclosure, Bell is a member of ARCHITECT's editorial advisory committee.)

A global architecture and design firm of more than 4,000 employees spread across 46 offices, and with a home base of San Francisco, Gensler's New York office was opened in 1979 and now employs 500 practitioners. The firm also came in at a very respectable third overall in our ARCHITECT 50 this year, including a great sixth in the Business category and fourth in the Sustainability category.

“Gensler is well-known for the wide-scale, wide-range, and extensive research it does and resulting innovation that serves its goal of ‘creating a better world’ through recognized, excellent design,” said Lance Jay Brown, president of AIA New York, in the same press release.
