The architect behind Chicago’s Aqua Tower is working with a developer on a potential new project in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle‘s John King reported Thursday that Studio Gang Architects, lead by Jeanne Gang, FAIA, is working with Tishman Speyer in the city. An email to the Chicago-based studio this morning confirmed this, but the spokesperson would not disclose details about location or if the project will be residential or commercial.
According to King, Tishman Speyer did confirm that the project is for a city-owned property near the under-construction Transbay Transit Center (where, in unrelated news, human remains were found earlier this week.) This would place the project somewhere in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco, where Snøhetta’s SFMOMA expansion is also underway.
Gang is hardly a new name to these pages. The firm’s Aqua Tower won a Annual Design Review Honorable Mention in 2009, and Gang also served on the jury for ARCHITECT’s 56th Annual P/A Awards. She also recently collaborated with Thodos Dance Chicago.
“We’re excited to be working in San Francisco!” the firm tweeted this morning.
