Times Square Alliance

Since 2009, a temporary heart-themed installation has been placed in New York’s Times Square to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Times Square Alliance holds an annual design competition to decide on the installation, and past winners have included a clear, glowing cube by Bjarke Ingels Group and an ice sculpture by Moorhead & Moorhead.

The Alliance, in partnership with the Architectural League of New York, announced today that this year’s Times Square Valentine Heart will be “HeartBeat” by Brooklyn’s Stereotank. Stereotank’s heart is designed to pulse with light and sound that changes in response to movement. Visitors will also be able to add to the beat by pounding on one of the piece’s percussion instruments. “HeartBeat” opens on Feb. 9 and runs through March 8.
