Lighting R&D's John R. Brass Dies
Lighting designer and president of Lighting R&D John R. Brass passed away on Oct. 28, 2006. Active for many years in the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, Brass designed many innovative lighting fixtures and created an approach to lighting design grounded in photographer Ansel Adam's theories regarding photography, which Brass called "Brightness Engineering". Throughout five decades, Brass contributed to the development of many lighting standards as well as thought and debate about lighting.
